The Capital City Minstrels – Winter Concerts 2017

The Capital City Minstrels usher in the holiday season with festive cheer in their winter concerts “An American Christmas”. Performing at various venues in Delhi between December 3 to 8, music lovers will get to experience the diversity and joy that is synonymous with this group.

The Capital City Minstrels (CCM) return this December with a series of concerts in Delhi to celebrate the festive season. Themed “An American Christmas” the choir will showcase music by renowned American composers, as well as traditional carols where the audience will get to share in the holiday spirit and sing along. Pull on your reindeer sweaters, pull out the Santa hats, bring your friends and family and enjoy a red, white and blue Christmas with CCM!

The Repertoire

“An American Christmas” includes music by American composers, as well as several pieces that are a part of traditional Christmas celebrations in the U.S. What is quintessentially American is really an amalgamation of cultures and experiences from all over, a country that has been shaped and Inspired by various elements from across the world. Many of the well-loved Christmas carols that feature in the programme may not be American in origin, but have become a part of traditional festivities. The carefully curated repertoire reflects the diverse influences on American music and culture. Songs like “Brightest and Best”, an Appalachian carol; Charles Ives’ “A Christmas Carol”,a traditional spiritual “My Soul’s been anchored” and the hauntingly beautiful “O Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen , will feature alongside traditional favourites like “Silent Night”, “A White Christmas” and “Joy to the World” .

About the Conductor

Lindsay Ross Boyd has been teaching and working internationally with a special focus in India since 2012. She was the band and choir director at Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, North Dakota, USA before being appointed to Director of Bands at Woodstock School in Mussoorie. During her teaching tenure in the USA she was also the music and choir director of St. John Lutheran Church. She is currently the Head of the Music Department at Pathways World School in Gurgaon, India. In addition to conducting wind band and chorus she was appointed Music Director and Conductor of the Buffalo Community Orchestra in Buffalo, Minnesota, USA. Along with conducting she has an interest and passion of finding cross sections of western and eastern music traditions and recently published the wind band piece, “Malkauns” under Hal Leonard Publishing Company for wind band that includes aspects of Hindustani music for a traditional western ensemble. Ms. Boyd received her Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting at the University of Minnesota under the tutelage of Professor Craig Kirchhoff and Jerry Luckhardt. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and a minor in Vocal Music at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.
