Sergei Rachmaninoff and Igor Stravinsky, giants amongst Russian composers, were contemporaries with the same roots, whose lives intersected. Both escaped the Russian Revolution; both ended up in Hollywood, just a few miles from each other; both were darlings of the US public. Yet, their music could not have been more different. SOI Associate Music Director Zane Dalal traces the lives and music of these two icons, whose works he will conduct in the SOI’s Autumn 2018 season.
