The Sound of Good Books

Gandhi Ashram School, Kalimpong is a free school with a musical twist in the Eastern Himalayas. 300+ children from low-income communities and child care institutions learn to read music, play orchestral instruments and sing during the school day. With the My Classroom Library, the school would like to inculcate a reading habit of a different kind – that of books.

The project will set up a library in each of the 12 classrooms from Lower Kindergarten until Class 10 and will be used to enhance the literacy and 21st century skills of the students contributing to academic success.

The school believes that a strong foundation in the arts, in academics and life skills can not only set up a child for success, but change the realities of their families and communities and become an active and contributing citizen.

Contributions to the project can be sent in the form of Book donations, contribution to the Pratham Book Fund here / or through bank transfer that will be used to buy Laptops and Speakers for the classrooms and training teachers to deliver the project.
