Conductor Ramiro Arista

A concert of Latin American Dance Music and more, with the
Bombay Chamber Orchestra

On November 30, the Bombay Chamber Orchestra (BCO) – Mumbai’s oldest and only indigenous Western classical orchestra – will be performing an exciting range of music under the leadership of renowned Argentinian conductor, Ramiro Arista. Maestro Ramiro Arista, one of the leading conductors of his generation, is known for his ability to combine European traditions, Balkanic folklore and Latin American rhythm to create a unique musical experience. He is also known for sometimes breaking into a dance while conducting! He has worked with over 70 orchestras in 14 countries and this is his first concert in India.

Here is what to expect at the concert:

  • A whole lot of foot-tapping Latin American dance music, including La Bamba” and Libertango”.
  • Felix Mendelssohn’s famous “Hebrides” overture which was inspired by the sight of the crashing waves at a basalt sea cave on a Scottish island.
  • Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky’s iconic Violin Concerto, which the BCO will play with guest violin soloist Nicolas Koeckert.

Koeckert is a German violinist who has won prizes in a series of music competitions over the past two decades, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the Montreal International Musical Competition and the Novosibirsk International Competition.
