‘Celebrate’ with the Capital City Minstrels | 13th – 17th December 2016

The Capital City Minstrels will perform a series of concerts from December 13 to 17, 2016 in Delhi and Gurgaon, showcasing Christmas music from around the world at some of some of the city’s most popular concert venues, cathedrals and a private concert for the President of India. This dynamic Delhi choir invites you to celebrate the season with them.

The Capital City Minstrels (CCM) are back to perform for audiences in the National Capital Region with their annual Christmas concerts. The choirwill presentthe NCR with a rich variety of Christmas themed sounds from different parts of the world, spanning music from 5 centuries that will evoke a variety of emotions for the singer and the listener. In today’s fragmented world, the metaphor – of voices mixed together, harmonising, blending and synchronizing, while still having independent identities, and individual contributions – is very welcome. Under the baton of their conductor, Sharmila BanerjeeLivingston, CCM will be in concert at venues across the city from December 13-17. CCM also has the honour of being invited to perform a private concert for the President of India and his guests at Rashtrapati Bhavan on December 18, 2016.

About the Music

True to the concert title, CCM’s winter concerts celebrate a rich journey through Christmas music from around the world. There is the opulence of “And the Glory of the Lord”, composed by George Frederic Handel, the first chorus of his glorious “Messiah” written in 1741 which is still performed across the world, especially around Christmas. Heinrich Schütz’s “Chorus of the Angels” from The Christmas Story is a rich arrangement sung in German, while Franz Gruber’s “Silent Night” will tease the audience with a different rendition of arguably the most well-known Christmas carol. The robust “Worship the King” by Billy Smiley and Bill George, contrasts with Kent Newbury’s haunting “For We Have Seen His Star”. Felix Bernard’s cheery “Winter Wonderland” and the energetic “Gotta Whisper Gotta Shout” by Victor Johnson, all feature in this Christmas journey across the world.
