Manvinder Rattan
Manvinder Rattan

An expert choral and orchestral conductor, Manvinder has been Musical Director of the John Lewis Partnership Music Society since 1995. Having inherited one choir, the society now has over fifteen. It also has an orchestra and Music Tuition Service on two sites; the choirs and orchestra gave over twenty-five performances last year, both near and abroad. Manvinder Rattan is also CEO & Head of Conductor Training for Sing for Pleasure, leading a team of tutors who teach around 300 conductors a year. In addition, he is Musical Director of Serafine Chamber Choir and Sinfonia, with whom he has released the critically acclaimed recording of Oliver Tarney’s Magnificat. Freelance engagements also keep him busy, with numerous guest conducting, teaching, singing and adjudicating engagements in the UK and abroad; he enjoyed his Indian conducting debut in 2016 and is looking forward to his Carnegie Hall (New York) conducting debut next year, following his long leave. In 2012, Manvinder was a judge for BBC2’s ‘The Choir’ with Gareth Malone, focussing on singing in the workplace. Manvinder was awarded an honorary doctorate by his alma mater, York St John University, for his services to music and conducting in 2016.
