Exploring the Sarangi: Construction, Tuning, and Left-Hand Technique
Although the large sarangi used in contemporary classical music evolved only recently-around the 1850’s-hardly anything is known about the craftsmen who specialized in making these instruments. “Jaunpuri sarangis are the most famous”, writes Shahinda in 1914, whereas S. Bandyopadhyaya informs us that sarangis made in Budaun (Uttar Pradesh) are
