HERE’S TO LOVE

If love makes the world go round, then The Capital City Minstrels are all set to take music lovers for a spin in their upcoming summer concerts in Delhi.

What’s love got to do with it? At The Capital City Minstrels’ (CCM) upcoming concerts in Delhi, it’s got to do with everything! The popular Delhi choir celebrates love in all its glory at their upcoming concerts – Here’s to Love! When all is well or when all is lost – on May 12 and May 14. As the title suggests, the choir will showcase a broader interpretation of love, at its exhilarating height as well as the sadness or pain of lost love. Based broadly on the ancient Greek interpretation of the different kinds of love, CCM’s repertoire will highlight this variety, like agape – the unconditional love of God; storge – familial love; philia – deep friendship; and eros – passion and desire. Part of a trilogy of concerts that began in December 2018 with the choir’s ‘Peace’ themed winter performances, these second set of concerts in May celebrate ‘Love’, and will culminate in ‘Joy’ in CCM’s 25th anniversary concerts in November 2019.

Repertoire

With music ranging from the Classical period to contemporary songs; in various languages and genres, the repertoire shows that love is a universal theme across time and geography. Vivaldi’s buoyant ‘Domine Fili’ celebrates God’s love for the world by sacrificing his only son; the haunting ‘The stars stand up in the air’ by Eric Barnum is an expressive and beautiful piece about the sadness for a lost love; the classic ‘Stand by Me’ showcases friendship and romantic love; while the rhythmically rich ‘I feel the earth move’ by Carole King focuses on that tumultuous head-over-heels feeling evoked by desire and attraction. From songs of jubilation to haunting melodies, songs that make you want to clap and dance, to stirring tunes of peaceful calm, the repertoire will take the audience through a range of emotions celebrating the variety of love!
