Sunit Tandon introduces a live recording from the Metropolitan Opera House, New York starring Deborah Voigt and Natalie Dessay in Strauss’ unique opera offering a chaotic competition between high and low art, combining slapstick comedy and heartrendingly beautiful music. A rich patron has booked two post-dinner acts to entertain his guests: a serious opera company and a comedy troupe. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, he decides that they must both perform at the same time.
