Music has been an integral part of human evolution. It has been rooted in our creative expression since time immemorial. Over the centuries, different cultures and traditions have used music and sound in myriad ways to communicate ideas, emotions and accentuate the impact of art-forms such as dance, theatre and cinema. This universal nature of music coupled with cultural interpretations of sounds makes music a very dynamic medium to create real and imagined spaces.
Avid Learning, in collaboration with Furtados and Royal Opera House, Mumbai presents Appreciating Sound Through Creative Collaboration, a hands-on and experiential musical masterclass facilitated by Opera and Jazz Singer, Sandeep Gurrapadi, along with Soprano, Educator and Director, Art Song Festival, Nina Kanter.
Explore a range of music making practices for devised theatre and ensemble music; reimagined for enthusiasts and established music practitioners in a laboratory environment. The masterclass will focus on different performative and musical elements: experimental ensemble and singing/chorus work, collaborative composition, voice in space, soundscape and narrative building. Sandeep and Nina will give the attendees a peek into the behind-the-scenes of building narrative and the dynamics of ensemble sound creation, not only in audio genres but also in everyday storytelling. The masterclass is designed to facilitate participants to take an active role in co-creation and to culminate in a short devised musical ‘scene’.
Join us for this immersive participation-based masterclass that will double up as an exploration of our auditory sensibilities that are ever-present but yet often not explored critically.
